Club Championship 09

Geraint Jones regained the trophy he won in 2007 when he won the Club Championship on Saturday 26th June. Gross scores of 71 and 73 saw him win by a comfortable 6 shots from second placed Llion Lloyd Kerry on 149 and Neil Hollands on 150.

5 handicapper Sam Higgins was fourth on 152, but Sam also won the best nett prize with a 142 after a second round gross of 69. He beat Lewis Jones and Barry John, both playing off 6, on a card play-off.

Not able to defend his crown was Jamie Howie who made the cut in the Brabazon Trophy at Royal Liverpool. He finished 58th out of a starting field of 153 with rounds of 77,75,75 and 84. The CSS for the first three rounds was 76, and 77 for the final round, which reflected the difficulty of the course and conditions.

The winner, Darren Wright of Rowlands Castle GC was the only sub-par player with a four round total of 285, 3 under par. Other notable finishers were Oliver Farr, 5th on 292 (+4) and Eddie Pepperell, winner of the Welsh Open Stroke Play held here last month, who was 33rd on 304 (+16).
