Here is a seaside hole on the grand scale. Slightly dog-legged from the tee, the fairway winged by sand dunes all the way, narrows down some seventy yards from the green. This is how John Hopkins, The Times' golf correspondent described the hole:-

“Everything on this hole is in front of you so you can see from the tee exactly what needs to be done.

You need a good drive to start with and then you aim at the green that nestles among the dunes. This hole is one of two that has no bunkers on it. It doesn’t need them – it’s difficult enough as it is. This is links golf at its best, a hole that looks difficult, is difficult  and looks as though it has been there for years. As you approach the green, look at the natural way the dunes rise on either side of you. This hole could have been a prototype of many holes built on the so-called stadium courses around the world.”
